Hager Maintenance Free Junction Box
Hager has launched an Ashley maintenance free junction box to meet the needs of the 17th edition wiring regulations for inaccessible locations.
The new range from Hager contains sprung push fit terminals that do not relax and therefore do not need to be accessible for future inspection. Tests on these terminals include long-term vibration, shock test, long term connection test, pull out, voltage drop, temperature rise and exposure to corrosive atmospheres.
The junction box is robust, easy to install and compliant with both the 17th edition and the new junction box standard BS EN 60670-22. It is also faster and easier to install than alternatives prescribed by the regulations, such as soldering.
The terminals accept and secure solid, stranded or flexible conductors from 0.5mm2 to 4mm2. Twin and CPC and flexible cords can all be mixed. You then secure the cage clamp terminal using a screwdriver or finger to push down on the pushbutton.
Wiring is fast and simple. The new maintenance free junction boxes fits comfortably in the hand and you can clamp the cables for easier connection. There is plenty of cabling space and the lid hinges through 360o for unrestricted access. The terminals are clearly labelled with mouldings in the base.
All the cables are clamped securely so there is no strain on the terminal connections and no risk of exposed unsheathed conductors, a requirement of the regulations. The cable clamps are reversible to allow either single or double cable entry.
Finally the junction box has two fixing points for securing to joists or another support.
There are two products in the new range, a three terminal 32A and a four terminal 20A version. Constructed from polycarbonate, the junction boxes will withstand impact damage and when installed they have a rating of IP2X.
