IEC launches Ex conformity mark
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has launched the Ex Mark – a new mark of conformity for explosion protected equipment.
The new Ex safety mark will be granted by approved IECEx certifiers located in IECEx participating countries. The mark will be used for equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and covered by an IECEx Certificate of Conformity. The Ex Mark features the familiar IEC logo and the distinctive Ex logo type.
Explosive environments include grain silos, hospitals, petrochemical installations, petrol pumps – any situation where the equipment being operated could be exposed to a potential explosive environment, where combustible substances are used or stored, or where there is or might be a rich, gaseous inflammable environment. People come into contact with Ex environments on a daily basis, for example at automotive refuelling stations, aircraft refuelling, surface coatings such as paint applications, and food processing, to name just a few.
