Excellence rewarded at HazardEx International 2008
This year’s HazardEx Awards were celebrated last month at a Gala dinner held at the East of England Showground in the UK during the 2008 running of the HazardEx International conference and exhibition.
There were four categories in this year’s awards scheme and nominations in each category were received from safety specialists in the hazardous area sector.
Nominations were placed on the HazardEx website and shortlists were then drawn up to create the finalists. The readers of Hazardous Area International were then invited to vote electronically for their winners in each category by using the www.hazardexonthenet.net website.
The award for Technical Innovation of the Year was sponsored by Dowding & Mills and presented by Technical Director, John Allen. The nominations for this category were Baldwin & Francis for the design of its Ex d mining equipment, Bartec for its moisture measurement device, Hawk-IR’s professional infra red cameras, the Pepperl+Fuchs’ Advanced Diagnostics Module and STL International for its LED Lighting fixture.
The winner was Pepperl+Fuchs for its advanced diagnostics module, which provides the basis for effective operation and maintenance of any fieldbus infrastructure. The module provides comprehensive fieldbus diagnostics for any system environment and is a component of the FieldConnex fieldbus philosophy and has an underlying technology that allows in-depth analysis of the fieldbus physical layer of Profibus PA or Foundation fieldbus H1. Runners up for Technical Innovation of the Year, Bartec and STL Technor received certificates and a hearty round of applause.
Nominations for the Contribution towards Safety award, which was sponsored by R Stahl, were Elmac Technologies for its flame arrester test facility, GarrettCom for the recently launched high availability network switch, ICS Triplex for its AADvance safety and critical control system, MTL for its Tofino security system and Perpetuum for the ATEX certified energy harvester.
