British Gas Get on Board

British Gas has become the latest organisation to join ELECSA’s Part P scheme for domestic electrical work.

Many members of the public may not realise, but British Gas has it’s own electrical services division, employing around 170 contracting electricians. The division undertakes around 112,000 installations every year including work as part of their home electrical care schemes. They will also quote for any domestic electrical contracting work including anything from fitting a light switch to re-wiring a whole house. An additional 60 electricians are employed within the British Gas central heating division.

All British Gas electrical staff are fully trained and work to the latest building regulations, including Part P. Paul Gibson, Electrical Standards Manager for British Gas, said “One of the main reasons we switched to ELECSA was their customer warranty scheme. We also liked the range of electrical certificates that can be used in conjunction with the ELECSA works notification system.”

British Gas joins the rapidly expanding group of more than 3,000 contractors already registered with ELECSA. Steve Mitchell, Managing and Operations Director for ELECSA said “we’d like to think that ELECSA is different from other Part P schemes. A lot of the staff here – including myself – are time served electricians who understand the type of problems that crop up everyday and can therefore provide practical help and advice.”

ELECSA operates a choice of full or defined scope schemes for Part P. Full scope is ideal for fully qualified electricians whose main business is electrical installation work. Defined scope is suited to those businesses that do an element of electrical work in the course of their main business ie kitchen/bathroom fitters, builders, heating engineers and plumbers.
