Luminaires Operate Swimmingly
Apollo luminaires from Pracht have recently been specified as part of the refurbishment of the lighting at Wymondham swimming pool in Norfolk. Following problems with the pool’s existing lighting, the replacement lighting needed to be low maintenance, energy efficient and able to withstand the high humidity and evaporation from the pool.
Kevin Boast of Kevin Boast Associates Ltd was tasked with designing the new lighting scheme. Working with Sill Lighting, the scheme was devised using Pracht Apollo T5 luminaires. Specifically designed for more aggressive environments, the Apollo range is waterproof, dust proof and chemical proof, and so ideal for this application.
Commenting on the project, Mr Boast said, “The swimming pool presents an arduous environment with high levels of humidity and chlorine, which can cause problems for some luminaires. We specified the Apollo T5 luminaire as they are robust enough to withstand these conditions.”
Supplied by Sill Lighting UK, the lighting scheme used some 62 Apollo T5 luminaires along with trunking and stainless steel suspension wire. Emergency lighting was also incorporated into the design. The new lighting is highly energy efficient, having decreased the electrical load by over 50% compared with the original lighting.
The Apollo range has luminaire housings made in white, fibreglass-reinforced, flame-resistant polyester resin which is also resistant to acid and alkalis. The luminaires are available in either T5 or T8 versions, with single and twin lamp models in several wattages. All Apollo fittings are made to high specification with silicon seals and silver-plated contacts for durability and long life.
With the final installation recently completed at Wymondham swimming pool, designers are delighted with the results. Kevin Boast added, “The new luminaires have made a big improvement to the pool, not only regarding quality of light but also the longevity of the lighting scheme. We are very happy with the outcome of this refurbishment.”
