Twickenham's Rebuild Draws to a Close
As building work comes to fruition at Twickenham’s new South Stand, the principal Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) contractor, SES, reflects on the job from the sidelines.
SES has been responsible for the design, supply, installation and testing of the complete mechanical, public health and electrical infrastructure of the new stand. This has included three new gas boilers, 34 air handling units, 8 cold water storage tanks and a fully integrated Trend BMS control system to the new CP& I plant – one of 21 plant rooms in the new stand.
Paul Todd, Project Manager for SES, tells us about the highs and lows of the job so far: “For a rugby fan, working at the Home of England’s Rugby Stadium can only be described as an idyllic place to work. Being on the top tier of the new South Stand looking down on the pitch, you can imagine the 82,000 strong crowd roar when England take to the field against their rivals.”
But, with feet back on solid ground, what challenges have Paul and his team had to face? “We certainly thought the main challenge was going to be liaising and coordinating with the other main contractors, who each have their own sub-contractors, on site. But, I’m happy to say that it’s been a brilliant team effort.
“Communication has been a key part of this project. We’ve held regular progress meetings with other trade contractors, together with monthly project meetings with the client (INK). This has definitely helped to keep the job on schedule and on budget.”
The new South Stand M&E infrastructure, together with all associated fit out works, are due for completion by the end of 2008.
