Legrand Industrial Sockets
When it comes to on-site power solutions, Legrand’s range of plugs, sockets and combined units are designed to withstand the toughest of treatment and the harshest of conditions. The company’s industrial products marketing manager, Andy Wiles, talks about some of the electrical industry’s toughest customers.
“Although our two ranges of plugs, sockets and combined units cater for different ends of the market, they do have one thing very much in common – they are designed to provide tough, flexible power solutions that can be put into use whenever and wherever needed.
The P17 Tempra range features a selection of plugs, sockets and combined units that are ideally suited for building sites and other temporary locations where the requirement for power can change from day-to-day. In contrast, the Hypra range, which features a similar spread of products, is aimed squarely at the most demanding of environments where physical and chemical attack would degrade lesser specification products.
So what exactly, do these two different ranges offer? Well, P17 Tempra is very much seen as a good value range. Its selection of plugs and sockets are available in IP44, 66 and 67 IK08 rated formats and cover everything from two part plug and mobile sockets to surface mounted sockets and appliance inlets, all of which are designed to save users time and money on assembly / installation. A great example of this is the two part plug and mobile socket, which not only features a simple twist-lock action, but also enables a reduction in assembly time due to the incorporation of a membrane gland entry with screwless cable clamp.
The modular combined units that make up the other half of the P17 Tempra range further underline the reason for its good value tag – with the different units providing excellent levels of safety, flexibility, reliability and ease of installation. As well as a double mechanical interlocked integral switch, the Tempra combined unit features a unique plug-in design where the base is wired independently of the cover to make the installation quick and easy. And, since the modular unit can be fitted with a variety of our Legrand Lexic MCBs, RCDs, contactors, indicators and timers, its scope and flexibility is truly impressive.
At the other end of the scale, our Hypra range is aimed at more permanent installations, but that doesn’t mean it sacrifices any of the P17 Tempra’s hard wearing qualities. In fact, Hypra products are used extensively in nuclear, chemical and process industries as well as high-end user applications, such as steel plants, sports arenas, commercial caterers and the food processing industry, where durability and robustness are not just appreciated, but virtually demanded.
Again featuring plugs, sockets and combined units, the range provides a dual protection rating of IP66/67 to 55 and is manufactured as standard in Polyamide 6; a tough durable material. The plastic and rubber units are IK09 rated, while the class leading metal units are IK10 rated – the highest rating for impact withstand in the standard.
Key amongst the ranges’ selection of plugs and sockets is the Prisinter, which is offered with 16, 32 and 63A ratings. The product features a unique on-load (AC3 rated) switch disconnector, which means there is no need for a separate adjacent isolator. As a result, space, money, and labour are saved, installation time is halved, and the end result is a neat, uncluttered installation.
As you can see from this brief overview of the two ranges, we really do offer something for everyone, no matter what the installation. As a result, electricians or installers simply need to remember to look to Legrand the next time they’re looking for tough and flexible power solutions.”
