Fire Detection for Debenhams’ Flagship Store

Leading Notifier Fire Systems Engineered Systems Distributor, Crane Communications has installed a complete Notifier by Honeywell fire detection solution in Debenham’s flagship store in Liverpool.

Spanning four floors, the 130,000 sq ft store is the company’s largest outside London and forms a central part of the prestigious Liverpool ONE retail development in the heart of the City.

The Notifier ID3000 intelligent fire alarm panel, together with 600 smoke detection devices, provides comprehensive protection for the retail store, restaurants and supporting warehouse and offices.

Crane already had positive experience working with principal contractor, Premier Electrics, in installing Notifier-based fire protection in other Debenhams stores, in Welwyn Garden City, Walton-on-Thames and Llanelli. "As a result, we were confident that the proposed solution would provide the necessary flexibility and robustness for what is a large and complex installation," says Tony Shivers, managing director, Premier Electrics.

The Notifier solution also incorporates approximately 200 addressable loop sounder beacons throughout the site. "As these do not rely on conventional circuits," says Crane’s systems manager, Ken Burns, "this significantly reduces cable runs, impacting positively on both system reliability and cost."

Central to Debenham’s decision was the Notifier panel’s ability to provide full integration with the rest of the store’s safety and security system. "The ID3000 provides an easy-to-manage, centralised point of control, by linking to more than 90 separate interfaces, including intruder alarms, CCTV inputs and door access," he confirms.

The Notifier installation has since proved trouble-free in operation, "fully justifying our decision to go with this technically-advanced yet tried and tested solution," concludes Shivers.
