2000 lumen LED downlight added to Thorn range
Thorn has developed a high-lumen output LED version of its already successful Cruz downlight – an important step which, according to the company’s product manager, Hans-Georg Schmidt, will completely change people’s thinking about general lighting.
The Cruz LED uses active cooling technology to outperform compact fluorescent (CFL) downlights in terms of energy efficiency and quality of light from a third smaller aperture. It delivers 2,000 lumens, with only 6% optical losses, in either warm white (3000K, 51 lm/W) or cool white (4000K, 55 lm/watt), equating to a 2 x 26W CFL downlight. The use of a remote yellow phosphor lens within a sophisticated optic limits glare (UGR < 19), with consistent colour performance (Ra ≥80).
"What the Cruz LED does", says Schmidt, "is open up a whole new range of possibilities for commercial and retail lighting. Previously LEDs were mainly used indoors for localised lighting, such as corridors or areas with low ceilings. The new ratings make solid-state lighting a viable alternative for those seeking smaller, more elegant alternatives to compact fluorescent in general spaces."
The use of active cooling technology, whereby a rapid oscillating membrane pulses turbulent air across the LED module’s cooling fins, combats conductive heat issues associated with using high power LEDs indoors.
Cruz LED is DALI dimmable and delivers 100% instant light with a rated life of 50,000 hours (70% lumen maintenance), which is five times that of a CFL.
Three attachments are available, ranging from the frosted glass ring to an IP54 glass or anti-harm cover. Bezels are white, chrome or grey.
