Seeing beneath the surface
The new PS 38 Multidetector from Hilti finds virtually everything that lurks beneath the surface of walls, floors or ceilings. It can accurately locate concealed metal, wood or plastic objects and electric cables.
When moved across the surface to be scanned, it indicates the position of objects at depths of up to 12cm, helping to reduce the risk of injury and the cost of damage caused by drilling into pipes or cables can also be ruled out.
Employing a combination of broad-band radar and induction technology, the Multidetector can differentiate automatically between ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as materials such as wood, PVC, live electric cables and even cavities.
Electricians can now fasten cable trays and lighting rails or chase out channels for conduits without risk. Concealed electric cables in existing installations can also be found. This tool lets tradesmen know exactly where rebars, water pipes or floor heating pipes are located and therefore where it is safe to make though-holes or position anchor points for new pipes and cables.
