New opportunity for electrical contractors to enter building energy controls market
Electrical contractors who have previously been excluded from the Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) market – leaving it to more specialised contractors – have a new opportunity to break into this sector.
International energy controls business ENER-G Solutions is recruiting contractors who might have no previous experience of building energy controls as Approved Installers of its new E-MAGINE control system.
This provides an opportunity for electrical contractors to enter the BEMS market without any need to re-train staff or invest in new resources. Typical turnover earnings will be approximately 65% of the total contract value, providing an attractive new income stream.
Contractors will sell and install the E-MAGINE system, while ENER-G provides full specialist engineering and maintenance support and upfront customer finance to avoid capital outlay. Customers may qualify for guaranteed energy savings through an Energy Performance Contract, with ENER-G guaranteeing to meet any shortfall should the projected savings not materialise, and to pass on additional returns if estimated savings are exceeded.
“Historically, BEMS have been fitted by specialist contractors with advanced skills to scope out a building and design, install and maintain a controls system,” said Gary Dowsett, Sales Director for ENER-G Solutions. “E-MAGINE is a next generation controls system that has all that intelligence and knowledge built in, so installation and commissioning is much easier. By carrying out a simple step-by-step building survey, our Approved Installers provide the information we need to design the bespoke E-MAGINE system. We then provide a customer quote and finance options that can avoid upfront costs and link payment to guaranteed energy savings. If successful, we supply the pre-configured kit and a wiring diagram and specific installation instructions. Having generated an income from the product sale and installation, the contractor’s role is now complete. ENER-G’s continuing role includes commissioning the system remotely and providing all ongoing support and maintenance services, including finance, direct to the customer.”
The new E-MAGINE control system uses the latest in IT and internet technology to control and manage all heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting applications, reducing energy usage by around 25%. It is both tamper-proof and pre-engineered to provide easy and rapid installation and commissioning, and assured lifetime reduction on energy costs and carbon savings.
A key component of E-MAGINE is its online energy management tool, E-VISION, an online dashboard that enables users to design, commission, control, analyse and manage energy usage remotely from a standard internet browser. Through the use of open protocols it can integrate seamlessly with third party building control systems and equipment.
ENER-G’s R&D team have spent years developing the E-MAGINE product range, which is suitable for a range of applications; from primary energy sources such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, dehumidification systems and warm air heaters, to secondary systems, such as HVAC, fan coils, domestic hot water and air filtration systems. It can manage indoor air quality by accurately sensing and controlling the temperature, humidity and fresh air needs of a building.
