Fire resistant enclosures for Tunnels
Spelsberg’s new WKE Rapid-Box is the latest example of the enclosure manufacturer’s ability to design bespoke solutions which directly target the unique requirements of end-users for niche applications.
The Rapid-Box is a fire resistant junction box which is designed to safely provide power outlets in train tunnels for use by maintenance and repair teams. Spelsberg are able to work with end users to develop unique solutions for specialist applications.
The WKE Rapid-Box is the latest product from Spelsberg’s range of WKE fire resistant enclosures with certification up to E90 providing 90 minutes protection in the event of exposure to fire. It has been designed in response to market demand for a robust junction box which is quick and easy to install in tunnels to facilitate power distribution for repair and maintenance equipment – where the use of a generator is forbidden due to the danger of harmful fumes. The enclosure conforms to Class II regulations and offers IK09 impact resistance, making them ideal for use in the rail industry.
The design, which includes maintenance-free terminals using patented wire clamping technology, is available from the manufacturer fully assembled; drastically reducing onsite installation time. Traditionally a niche application such as this would require engineers to customise standard enclosures to make them fit for purpose.
Spelsberg manufacturers the majority of its standard product range at its headquarters in Germany. It is able to create custom moulds for bespoke design where a customer requires it. Alternatively, Spelsberg UK is able to customise and assemble enclosures from its facilities in Telford, UK. Spelsberg UK employs a team of expert sales engineers who are experienced in the design and delivery of enclosure solutions for many industries.
