Domestic Boiler Manager slices bills
With the country in the grip of a big freeze keeping homes warm without breaking the bank is a challenge – unless you’re one of the smart householders who’ve installed a Domestic Boiler Manager unit that is slicing hundreds of pounds off bills. The small Marshall-Tufflex units are quick and easy to install and suitable for gas, oil and LPG fuelled combi, condensing or modulating boilers, making them perfect for almost any property.
One householder in South Wales is about £70 per month better off after installing a unit in his home, which uses a combination of bottled propane gas and electricity for heating, lighting and cooking. In winter the householder typically used one 47kg propane gas bottle every seven days. Installing the Domestic Boiler Manager has extended the life of each gas bottle to almost 9.5 days, a monthly saving of around £70 at current gas prices.
Installer Chris Short, of Electroserve Installations, said: “The results were pretty definitive and my customer was more than happy with the outcome. Return on investment is crucial and this really proves that the units work. Savings made on buying fewer propane gas bottles will easily pay for the DBM. After that my client is making straight savings.”
Marshall-Tufflex quotes savings of up to 20%, depending upon usage patterns. Field trials in social housing properties returned savings of between 15% and 31% for tenants with reasonably normal usage patterns. One elderly resident, who required the heating on for long periods, recorded savings in excess of 61%, giving the manager unit a great return on investment. Domestic Boiler Manager units start at £380 excluding VAT and installation
