EAL initiates new All Party Parliamentary Group on Apprenticeships (29 February 2012)
MPs from all parties have pledged to promote Apprenticeships through a new parliamentary group that was established this week. The new All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Apprenticeships has been brought together by EAL, the awarding organisation for industry qualifications, and IMI Awards, the awarding organisation for the retail motor industry.

New research has debunked the idea that university degrees are superior to Apprenticeships. Over three-quarters of industry employers regard the vocational learning route as equal or preferable to a higher education when preparing people for successful careers.

‘Downgrading vocational qualifications in schools threatens vital skills’ (01 February 2012)
The EAL has condemned the cull of vocational qualifications from school league tables. More than 3,000 vocational qualifications regarded as equivalent to GCSEs in current league tables will be reduced to 125, with just 70 counting towards the main performance measure of five A* to C grades.

Industry must do more to boost engineering education (14 December 2011)
The EAL has said that industry should be taking the initiative to educate pupils, teachers and parents on the benefits and careers available in the engineering and manufacturing sector. The specialist awarding organisation for industry qualifications was responding to an independent report on the state of engineering in the UK, where concerns were raised on the number of young people gaining the right qualifications to maintain one of the UK’s largest sectors.
