Refitting in Double-Quick Time
MT32, Marshall-Tufflex's high-speed plug and play power connection system, is making fast work of an electrical refit to offices that are constantly in use within a listed building. Electrical contractor, Abel Technical Services, discovered that old vulcanized Indian rubber (VIR) wiring in the oldest part of Worth Corner Business Centre, Crawley, needed replacing.
This section of the building dates from the 1700s. The electrical re-fit was not only hindered by the complex layout of the premises, but also because the fabric of the building could not be interfered with and the work had to be carried out quickly to minimise inconvenience to office tenants.
Murray Laban, Partner, Abel Technical Services, said: "We put Marshall-Tufflex's MT32 forward to our client because it provides fast installation and cost savings. As it is a plug and play system, their own qualified electrical maintenance people can easily make basic adaptions in the future. We were able to take the cable management system throughout the building, where the trunking looks smart and fits in well with the surrounding decor. Our client was particularly concerned with aesthetics and is pleased that the previously untidy power supplies, especially those of IT tenants, are now neatly concealed.
In addition to a fast turn around on site, Worth Corner Business Centre's management company, Beamland Ltd, needed a flexible system that could easily be adapted to suit the changing requirements of tenants. It also required unsightly leads, cables and wires tidied away so that the offices became far smarter in appearance.
MT32 was a natural choice as it is safe - it cannot be incorrectly wired - and delivers super-fast installation. It can also be easily reconfigured should the future positioning of sockets need altering. By using it in combination with Marshall-Tufflex's Sterling Profile PVC-U cable management system, the power connection system and cabling are safely and attractively contained.
Some 60 x 2 gang socket outlets, plus five fused spur units and 120 metres of white Sterling Profile trunking manufactured by cable management specialist, Marshall-Tufflex, were supplied by Senate Electrical's Redhill branch. Abel Technical Services, of Redhill, installed the products in the offices within the oldest part of the building. Other areas were rewired using Marshall-Tufflex's Mini Trunking system.
MT32 is capable of reducing electrical fit-out times by up to 80% and therefore can also significantly reduce installation costs. MT32 takes power cabling through trunking to a plug and play, 32 Amp connector in pre-wired, pre-tested accessory boxes. In the time it generally takes to install one hard-wire box, four or more MT32 boxes can be simply clicked together, circuit tested and signed off, making light work of irregular layouts in older buildings like Worth Corner.
