Ultimate Over Voltage Protection by choosing Weidmuller's PU II OVP Products
Weidmüller’s product family PU II for overvoltage protection: self-monitoring, multipole Class II overvoltage arresters with varistors and efficient additional functions.read more
Weidmüller has been specialising in components for overvoltage protection for more than 20 years. With its overvoltage protection PU II, the company is offering an innovative Class II series solution for applications in mechanical engineering, in technical processing installations and water recovery systems – where efficient overvoltage protection is indispensable.
Flexibility in design and versatility in application are powerful arguments in favour of Weidmüller’s Class II components. As well as the 3- and 4-pole standard versions, the product programme also includes 1- and 2-pole designs with or without a remote signalling contact. The base can be rotated 180° to support flexible installation options for the wire connection – from above or below. That means the arrester can always be installed correctly. That simplifies the use of cross-connections behind an RCD (or Residual Current protective Device) resulting in increased order in the electrical cabinet.
All protective elements are coded. Mechanical coding prevents incorrect plugging of the spare arrester for different nominal voltages. In addition, excellently legible markings guarantee correct voltage coding. PU II series products are designed to support extensive marking options. For instance, front-side marking channels on each protective element facilitate equipment identification marking with Weidmüller’s Dekafix. The protective elements are designed for plugging: trouble-free plug and pull functionality of the protective elements simplifies taking insulation resistance readings and maintenance work on the installation. And the withdrawal aid is just as practical. This practically designed surface for the screwdriver facilitates trouble-free withdrawal of the arrester.
All PU II devices are fitted as standard with a visible green/red function display to enable straightforward front-side inspection. A green/yellow/red wear indicator is also optionally available for monitoring and preventative maintenance purposes. The colour ‘green’ visualises the unrestricted, one hundred percent protective function. When ‘yellow’ becomes visible it is recommended that you replace the arrester. 'Red’ signalises that the arrester is defect and that it must be replaced immediately.
The optional remote signalling contact is integrated in the compactly constructed Insta housing and does not increase the size of the device. The optionally available wear indicator and the leakage current free version represent a technical highlight. A combination of varistor and spark gap means the arresters are totally leakage current free, which means they can be installed in front of the meter.
Class II PU overvoltage protection products can be supplied for all common mains voltages: DC voltage applications: 120/230 V, 230/400 V or 277/480 V, 380/660 V and 470/690 V. The respective maximum operating voltage Uc of the arresters is 75 V, 130 V, 280 V, 385 V and 550 V.
Developed in Weidmüller’s own design, the PU II devices are supplied with a black base and orange-red/blue arrester. They have been designed for operating temperatures between -40°C and 70°C. All PU II overvoltage protection devices are tested in accordance with IEC 61643-1 (with Imax: 40kA (8/20µs) for Class II and Uoc: 6kV for Class III); the standard specifies all mechanical and electrical characteristics for overvoltage protection elements. Devices from the PU II series are CE and ÖVE approved. cULus approval is pending.
The PU II product family proves to be extremely versatile in a wide variety of applications. PU II overvoltage arresters are designed for use in Weidmüller’s Class II series also offers an extensive programme of components for main and sub-distributors in building installations. That begins with lightning protection/equipotential bonding to combi-arresters through to overvoltage surge and device protection.
