BASEC suspends Atlas Kablo’s certification licence
BASEC advises the electrical sector to be vigilant for affected Atlas Kablo, ‘2010’ dated, batches of cable which have been found to have excessive conductor resistance - insufficient copper. Atlas Kablo has been required by BASEC to immediately investigate and rectify the problem and to assist the market in locating and recovering affected product for scrapping.
Distributors, wholesalers, contractors and buying groups have already been contacted by BASEC to inform them to check what cable they have in stock, quarantine affected cable and notify their supplier or contact Atlas Kablo directly. While action has been taken by Atlas Kablo to stop affected batches being sold, BASEC has requested distributors and wholesalers to inform their customers.
Installers who are concerned that affected cable may have been used should ensure they check that the necessary electrical installation verification tests have been performed by a qualified and competent electrician. Any performance concerns following this test should be investigated to ensure circuits are safe or need protection enhancement or cables replaced.
The cables affected by the suspension are marked ‘Atlas Kablo’ and are of types:
· Flat twin, single and 3-core with CPC (BS 6004 Table 8 and IS 201-4 Table I, 1.0sqmm – 16sqmm)
· Single core unsheathed (BS 6004 Table 4a, 1.5sqmm – 35sqmm)
· Single core sheathed (BS 6004 Table 7, 1.5 sqmm - 35 sqmm)
No other BASEC approved manufacturer is involved.
