SELECT welcomes re-launch of building standards website

SELECT, the trade body for the electrotechnical industry in Scotland and the first and biggest Certifier of Construction in Scotland, has welcomed the re-launch of the Scottish Building Services Certification (SBSC) website.

The site, which provides detailed information for homeowners and construction industry professionals on Building Standards Certification has been significantly updated and enhanced with extended information.

It covers Certification of Design and Construction and SELECT Members issue around 1,000 Certificates of Construction per month, consistently the most in Scotland.

Martin Reid, Member Services Manager and Scheme Manager for the Building Standards scheme at SELECT (pictured), said: "As an organisation we welcome this timely updating of the SBSC site. We see it as the definitive site for homeowners, tradespeople and house builders to find comprehensive information on certification of Building Standards."

The site lists the benefits of becoming an Approved Certifier for those in the industry, and of having work certified for homeowners and house builders. Certification provides assurance that work meets building regulations and assists them with the approval of Building Warrants and the acceptance of completion certificates.

Certification of Design and Construction work recognises that suitably qualified and experienced building professionals and tradespeople take responsibility for ensuring compliance with building regulations without the need for detailed scrutiny of design or inspections by local authority verifiers.

Newell McGuiness, Managing Director at SELECT, said: "We wish to see Certification of Design and Construction become the norm in the industry, as that will provide the highest level of protection for the public and recognition of properly qualified tradesmen. We at SELECT are acutely aware of the need for accurate information and clear guidance on responsibilities when working under a Building Warrant both for the verifiers and general public. We welcome the clarity and comprehensive nature of the updated SBSC site."
