New Consumer Unit Lock Protects Electrician.
Hager has developed a simple solution for locking off its consumer unit, so that no one can access the devices while an electrician is working on a circuit.
Originally developed for Taylor Wimpey and Barratts, an electrician would use it when working on a circuit while keeping the rest of the installation live for functionality. No other consumer unit on the market has a simple solution to the issue.
Now available as an option, the consumer unit door has a hole through which a locking bracket will fit through. This allows the installer to pad lock off the entire consumer unit. Manufactured from 1.5mm steel, no one can remove the lock bracket once the padlock is in place.
When the electrical work is finished, the installer simply plugs the hole with a bung that is supplied with the board. Spare bungs can be bought in packs of ten.
Says Chris Howells, product manager for Hager: “The HSE have been pushing the market for a safe way of locking off a consumer unit so that no one can access the devices. While we have seen complete bars or housings used to prevent access to a consumer units, until now there has not been a simple and fast solution.”
