Scorpion ensures Bartholomews Agri Foods can keep business moving during powercuts

The prospect of potentially loosing business and inconveniencing customers when prolonged powercuts occur is no longer a problem for leading agricultural food supplier Bartholomews Agri Foods, following the installation of a standby generator system from leading power support company, Scorpion Power Systems.

Scorpion has provided Bartholomews with a complete turnkey operation comprising of consultancy, design, all electrical and cabling work as well as installation and commissioning.

One of the UK’s top 10 suppliers of seed, fertilisers and crop protection products as well as one of the country’s biggest crop marketeers, Bartholomews Agri Foods is a family run business that can trace its roots back to 1881. Its £45 million a year operation also includes a large fleet of over 25 commercial vehicles.

Aware that a prolonged power cut could have a detrimental affect on its business, the company decided to install a hi-tech power system at its headquarters in Chichester to support its offices, feed mill, seed mill and three warehouses. Looking for a company that had the knowledge to complete every stage of the installation, Bartholomews was recommended to integrated power solutions company, Scorpion Power Systems.

Following an in depth site survey, Scorpion specified a 415 kVA diesel generator with automatic mains failure and weatherproof and acoustic canopy. Now installed and supporting Bartholomews business infrastructure, the Scorpion power system has ensured the company can operate 24-7 no matter how long the power cut lasts.

Commenting, Colin Shepherd, Bartholomew’s maintenance engineer said: "We have received excellent service from Scorpion Power Systems staff who were able to advise us on the best possible way of ensuring that our business could continue functioning during prolonged powercuts. All installation and electrical work was carried out by the company with minimum disruption to staff and services".

Scorpion’s diesel powered generator is specifically produced for the long-term protection of critical and sensitive equipment to insure against major electrical catastrophe. When an outage occurs, it is recognised by the auto-mains failure panel (AMF) and the generator steps in to provide an alternative power supply. Once mains electricity returns, the AMF will monitor the supply until certain that it is stable before shutting the generator down and resetting to await the next mains power cut.
