VocaLink has put Scorpion Power Systems technical know-how and expertise to full use in updating the company’s power support system at its facility in Harrogate. Power support company, Scorpion, has provided Vocalink with a complete turnkey operation for the installation of a state-of-the-art standby power system including consultancy, design, removal of existing system, installation and commissioning.
VocaLink is a specialist provider of transaction services to banks, their corporate customers and Government departments. Having pioneered electronic payments over four decades ago, the company has been a driving force in electronic transactions. Many of the world’s top banks and their corporate customers rely on VocaLink to meet their transaction needs. Its switching platform connects the world’s biggest ATM network of over 60,000 ATMs.
At the heart of the business are robust processing engines that process domestic and international automated payments and ATM switching solutions. With loadings on the building having dramatically increased over the past five years due to increasing staff and equipment needed to service its growing customer base, Vocalink needed to upgrade its power infrastructure to maintain the smooth running of the company in the event of a power outage.
To kick off the project, Scorpion’s engineers set about stripping out the existing generator. While this work was being carried out, Scorpion arranged for a rental generator to be installed for the duration of the work. Once all preliminary work was completed, the new standby power system was put in place.
The power support system comprises of two Scorpion Powerhouse DV630 diesel generators synchronised together to provide an N+1 configuration for greater resilience. The generators are housed in a weatherproof and acoustics canopy and are fitted with a number of special features to ensure that the generator is always ready for use and meets all current regulations. These include a heater to aid cold starting and a steel bund to retain any diesel spillage.
